OFRF Names New Director
The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) has named Brise Tencer as its new executive director. Tencer brings 14 years of leadership experience working on organic food policy, farming and research issues, and strong relationships across all sectors of the organic community. She most recently served as director of policy and programs for California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). At CCOF, she managed the government affairs and grower education program, coordinated their regional chapters of members, and ran a grant-making program. Good Food Awards Open Call for Entries
The Good Food Awards has announced a call for entries July 7-Aug. 1. Food and drink producers from across the country are invited to submit their beer, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, coffee, confections, pickles, preserves, oils, spirits and – new this year – honey. In celebration of its fifth anniversary and to recognize even more exceptional food crafters, the Good Food Awards is also expanding existing categories to include cider (Beer), kombucha (Pickles), yogurt and kefir (Cheese), preserved fish (Charcuterie) and cocktail modifiers (Spirits). Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium Turns 80
A reception was held in New York on the eve of the Summer Fancy Food Show to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Consorzio del Formaggio Parmigiano Reggiano (Consortium). The Consortium was originally established to “distinguish the ‘grana tipico’ cheese from others commonly mistaken for it, and incorrectly named as authentic Parmigiano Reggiano in northern Italian marketplaces. Rogers Collection Parm Cracking Event at SFFS
For the third consecutive year, Rogers Collection will host the cracking of a whole wheel of Brown Cow Parmigiano-Reggiano at the Summer Fancy Food Show (SFFS) in booth 2150. The cheese is made by Società Agricola Valserena, an Italian dairy near Parma, Italy, that is dedicated to producing Parmigiano-Reggiano made solely from the milk of brown cows (sola bruna). Valserena is one of the oldest dairies producing Parmigiano-Reggiano and one of the very few farmstead producers still remaining.
